A disposable weed pen is the simplest way to use cannabis: no grinder, no lighter, no cartridge to screw on, and very little smell. You take it out of the box and use it until it is empty. That convenience is why disposables have become one of the most popular formats in Canada. This guide explains how they work, what is inside them, how strong they are, how many hits you can expect, how to tell a decent pen from a bad one, how to fix common problems, and how the disposables we carry compare.
Disposable weed pens at a glance
| What it is | An all-in-one vape: a battery and a pre-filled tank of cannabis oil in one sealed unit |
|---|---|
| What is inside | Usually THC distillate plus terpenes for flavour; some pens use live resin or a CBD blend |
| Common sizes | 1 ml to 3 ml (or 1 g to 3 g) of oil |
| How you use it | Inhale-activated (just draw) or button-activated |
| Rechargeable? | Many are, through a USB port, so you can finish all of the oil |
| Smell | Light, and it fades within a minute or two |
| Who it suits | Anyone who wants convenience and discretion; start slow if you are used to flower |
How a disposable weed pen works
Inside the pen is a small battery, a heating coil and a tank of oil. When you draw on the mouthpiece (or press the button, on button-style pens), the battery heats the coil, the coil warms the oil, and you inhale the vapour. Nothing burns, which is why the smell is much lighter than smoke and fades quickly.
Unlike a 510 cartridge, which screws onto a separate battery, a disposable is one sealed unit. When the oil runs out, the whole pen is done. That is the main trade-off: simplicity in exchange for less control and more waste.
Are disposable weed pens real weed?
A legitimate disposable contains oil extracted from cannabis. Most use distillate, which is a highly refined THC oil, with terpenes added back for flavour. Some use live resin, which keeps more of the plant’s original flavour. So yes, the active ingredient comes from cannabis, but distillate pens do not taste exactly like the flower the strain name refers to.
Distillate, live resin and CBD blends
- Distillate pens are the most common. The oil is very pure and very strong, and the flavour comes from the terpenes added after refining.
- Live resin pens are made from fresh-frozen plants and keep more of the original terpene profile, so they usually taste closer to the strain. They tend to cost more.
- CBD and THC blends, such as 1:1 pens, mix equal parts CBD and THC. Many people find them milder and more manageable than straight THC pens.
Terpenes in vape pens
Since distillate itself has almost no taste, the terpene blend decides what a pen tastes like. Some makers use cannabis-derived terpenes taken from the plant; others use botanical terpenes from other plants that copy a strain’s profile; and many fruit-flavoured pens use blends designed for flavour first. That is why a “Strawberry Cough” or “Death Bubba” pen will taste like a stylised version of the strain rather than identical to the flower. If you want the truest strain flavour, live resin is usually the better pick; if you want sweet, candy-like flavours, distillate pens deliver that well.
How strong is a disposable weed pen?
Much stronger per puff than flower. Flower is usually somewhere around 18% to 28% THC, while distillate oil is commonly 80% to 90% or more. One long pull from a pen can equal several puffs of a joint. Pens often list their strength in milligrams of THC per device. For example, a 2 ml pen holding 1800 mg of THC means roughly 900 mg per millilitre of oil.
If you are switching from flower, take a short, gentle puff, wait five to ten minutes, and only then decide whether you want more.
How many hits do you get from a disposable?
It depends on the size of the pen and how long each draw is. A 1 ml pen is often good for a few hundred short puffs, and a 2 ml or 3 ml pen for proportionally more. Long, deep pulls use oil much faster than short sips. If the pen is rechargeable, charge it when the light starts blinking rather than letting it die completely; a weak battery can make the last of the oil hard to use.
What makes a good disposable?
- Clear labelling. You should be able to see the oil volume, the THC content and the type of oil.
- Rechargeable battery. A USB port means you can use all of the oil instead of throwing away a pen with oil left in it.
- Clean taste. A good pen tastes like its flavour, not burnt or chemical. A harsh, burnt taste usually means the coil is running dry or too hot.
- Heat settings. Button pens with adjustable heat let you start low for flavour and go higher for bigger clouds.
- A consistent source. Buy from a shop you trust and stick with brands that have worked for you.
Disposables we carry, compared
We carry two main lines of disposables. Here is how they compare, based on their product pages at the time of writing:
| Pen | Oil | Size and strength | How it works | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LUSH 2 ml disposables, e.g. Death Bubba | Delta-9 THC distillate and natural terpenes | 2 ml, 1800 mg THC | Inhale-activated, USB rechargeable (cable not included) | Simple, compact, lots of flavours |
| LUSH Sour Diesel 1:1 | Equal CBD and THC | 2 ml | Inhale-activated, USB rechargeable | A milder, more balanced option |
| AAA+ House 3G pens, e.g. Blue Dream | THC distillate and terpenes only | 3 g, up to 92.85% Delta-9 THC | Button: 5 presses on/off, 3 presses to change heat | More oil per pen and heat control |
LUSH flavours include strain profiles like Death Bubba, Strawberry Cough and Cherry Pie as well as fruit flavours such as Double Mango and Grape Ice. Browse every option in our disposable vape section. Prices are shown on each product page.
Similar options we carry: cartridges and batteries
If you vape often, a 510 cartridge and a rechargeable battery can be better value over time, because you only replace the cartridge. We carry a range of 510 cartridges and the BrightBay Lithium OTG 510 battery to pair with them: a 350mAh pen-style battery with a preheat mode and a voltage switch, so you can tune the heat to each cartridge. Our older post on where to buy vape pens in Canada covers more of the basics.
How much is a disposable weed pen?
Price depends on how much oil the pen holds and what kind of oil it is. Bigger pens cost more upfront but usually work out cheaper per gram, and live resin pens tend to cost more than distillate pens. Comparing cost per millilitre or per gram is the fairest way to judge value.
Troubleshooting a disposable pen
- No vapour: charge it, then take a few gentle draws. On button pens, make sure it is switched on.
- Clogged or hard to pull: warm the pen in your hand for a minute, then take a few short, light draws without inhaling fully.
- Burnt taste: slow down between puffs, use a lower heat setting, and check whether the oil is nearly gone.
- Light blinking: on most pens this means low battery; on some it means the pen was drawn on for too long in one go.
How to store a disposable
Keep it upright at room temperature, out of direct sun. Do not leave it in a hot car or a freezing one; heat thins the oil and can cause leaks, and cold makes it thick and slow. Keep it away from children and pets, and recycle empty pens with other small electronics where your community allows it.
Ordering a disposable by mail
Leafville ships across Canada by Canada Post with tracking. Orders are vacuum sealed and sent in plain packaging, and you pay by Interac e-Transfer. We sell only to adults of legal age in their province.
